Bollywood Movie - Hollywood remake1

“Sholay” is said to be inspired from following movies,
1. Once Upon A Time In The West
2. Seven Samurai
3. Magnificent Seven
and “Sholay” famous song “Mehbooba Mehbooba” is based on “Say You Love Me” by Demi Roussas and is equally enjoyable.

Mohabbatein – “DEAD POET’S SOCIETY”
Darr – “DEAD ALM” (Australian film) & “CAPE FEAR”
Salaam Namaste – “NINE MONTHS”
Dhoom – Has got shades of "TOO FAST TOO FURIOUS” & “OCEAN ELEVEN”
Hum Tum – “HARRY MET SALLY” was adapted beautifully.
Mere yaar Ki shaadi hai – “MY BEST FRIEND’S WEDDING”
Yeh Dillagi – “SABRINA”

“Tara Rum Pum” partly resembled the Tom Cruise starrer ‘Days Of Thunder’....
And there were scenes and situations in the second half inspired from Italian Classic ‘Life Is Beautiful’.

“Raqeeb” – Copied from “Murder By Natural Causes”

“Raghu Romeo” (2003) - from Spanish director Pedro Almodovar's ATAME. (1990...also known as Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down)

“Tara Rum Pum” partly resembled the Tom Cruise starrer ‘Days Of Thunder’, and there were scenes and situations in the second half inspired from Italian Classic ‘Life Is Beautiful’.

“Chocolate” gets its whole content from “The Usual Suspects”

“3 Deewarein” is highly influenced by “The Shawshank Redemption”

“Janbaaz” get its inspiration from “Duel in the Sun” (1946) featuring Gregory Peck & Jennifer Jones.

“The Burning Train” takes its main plot from Japanese Movie “Shinkansen Daibakuha” or “The Bullet Train” (1975).

“Judwaa” - Inspired by Cantonese movie Shuang long hui (1992), also known as "The Twin Dragons". The movie copied the exacts scenes also.

“Naina” – Completely Inspired from “The Eye”

“Bhoot” – It’s a kind of remake of Ram Gopal Verma’s Own movie “Raat”
But it surely is inspired from these English Versions : “The exorcist”, “Rosemary's baby” and “The Omen”

“Agnipath” & “Vaastav” - get it from “ScarFace”...
Al Pacino’s “SCARFACE" has inspired many Gangster movies and the most influenced are “Agnipath” & “Vaastav”.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali also gets inspired........
“Khamoshi” (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) was inspired from “Beyond Silence” (German)
It was German director Link's debut with touching and engaging exploration of the relationship between deaf parents and their hearing daughter who is going to learn music.
Same theme was there in the debut film of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Khamoshi”. Quite interesting.

The “spirited filmmaker” again repeated the inspiration thing in “BLACK” inspired by “THE MIRACLE WORKER”.

“Mujhse Shaadi Karogi” is highly inspired by “Meet the Parents” and also from “Anger Management”. Infact a whole scene of Salman’s dinner at Priyanka’s house where the ashes bowl gets broken by the cork of the bottle is a straight lift from "Meet The Parents".

“Kehta Hai Dil Baar Baar” - is inspired by "Meet the Parents" too.

“Aapko Pehle Bhi Kahin Dekha Hai” also gets inspiration from “Meet The Parents” & “Father OF the Bride”

And Strangely
“Aisi Bhi Kya Jaldi Hai” – also follows “Father of the Bride”

Censor Board

The CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification), popularly known as Censor Board is a quasi-judicial body coming under the control of the Govt. of India. Once a film is certified, the exhibition of the film in the cinema halls comes under the purview of the respective State Government. Therefore, enforcement of Cinematograph Act is the sole responsibility of the State law and order machinery, namely, the Police Commissioners, the Collectors and the SPs of the Districts. The CBFC does not have any special police force of its own to enforce the provisions of Cinematograph Act.

Please check the publicity posters of the films and find out whether the category of certificate ( ‘U’, ’UA’, ‘A’ of ‘S’) issued by the Central Board of Film Certification has been indicated on it.

Please check whether children below 18 years of age are inside the theatre to witness a film which has been granted an 'A’ Certificate.

The censorship of films is governed by the The Cinematograph Act,1952, the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules promulgated in 1983 and the guidelines issued on December 6, 1991. The guidelines are issued under Section 5B of the Act. This section says that ' a film shall not be certified for public exhibition, if, in the opinion of the authority competent to grant the certificate, the film or any part of it is against the interests of the sovereignty and integrity of India, the security of the States, friendly relations with foreign States, public order, decency or morality or involves defamation or contempt of court or is likely to incite the commission of any offence

U - Unrestricted Public Exhibition
UA - Unrestricted Public Exhibition - But With Parental Guidance
A - Restricted to adults
S- Restricted to any special class of persons
Sanction of any of the above category
subject to Excisions and Modifications

Asha Parekh was the first female chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (Censor Board) of India. She held the post from 1998 to 2001. She made many controversial decisions including not giving clearance to Shekhar Kapur's Elizabeth.

Filmfare Awards Facts6

Did you know that the awards for lyricists and playback singers started only after 5 years of the inception of awards? Also till 1966 there was no separate award for male and female playback singers.

Best Music director was the only category in the Music genre that started with the birth of Filmfare Awards in 1953.

The top five Music Directors on the basis of number of times they have won the award are:
Shankar-Jaikishen - 9
Laxmikant-Pyarelal - 7
A.R. Rehman - 5

Salil Chowdhary (Madhumati) is the only music director to have 100% winning and nomination ratio. He has been nominated just once and has won.

Madan Mohan never won a Filmfare award inspite of being nominated thrice, so is the case with Viju Shah who has been nominated for four times.

The only lyricist to have a hattrick in winning the Filmfare award is Shakeel Badayuni (1961,1962,1963).

Javed Akhtar was nominated for the first time in1985 after which he has won 6 times and has been nominated for 10 times!

Filmfare Award for Best lyrics started only in 1958.

Awards for playback singing also started in 1958 and would you believe that for 9 years (1958-1966) there was no separate award for male and female singers.

Filmfare Awards Facts5

In 1991 Dimple Kapadia gave a special award to husband Rajesh Khanna for completing 26 years in the film industry. In the same year Gulzar gave an award to his ex-wife Rakhee in the Best Supporting Actress category for Ram Lakhan. And while handing over the trophy Gulzar in a very mischievous fashion said to Rakhee "Aji Sunti Ho".

As the Filmfare award function of 1991 came to an end, the entire mob of audience ran towards Amitabh Bachchan as he stood up near the pool. The pool was covered with planks and one of the planks cracked. At that moment Amitabh Bachchan did a real action hero stint by moving forward and picked up Rakhee who was very close to the cracked plank thereby averting a mishap.

After winning numerous awards singer Lata Mangeshkar voluntary ousted herself from the Filmfare awards nominations so that fresh talents can get a chance. And after decades, in 1995, Lata Mangeshkar accepted the Best Playback Singer award for Hum Aapke Hai Koun, once again on popular demand.

Filmfare Awards Facts4

In the 1981 Filmfare Awards, Kishore Kumar was supposed to sing only 2 songs for the event. But he was so involved in the performance that he sang continuously for almost one hour. Accompanying him on the stage was his brother Ashok Kumar and son Amit Kumar. And later Kishore Kumar instead of singing his award winning song crooned Mohammed Rafi's song.

Vani Ganpathi and Kamal Haasan got married on the day of the 25th Filmfare Awards. And they made a spectacular entry with their garlands still around their necks. That year Vinod Mehra also postponed his honeymoon with wife Meena Broaca to attend the function. Both marriages did not survive.

Choreographer B. Sohanlal who was the president of the choreographer's association consistently appealed to the Filmfare to have an award for Best choreography. But his plea was answered only in 1988 when the Best Choreography Award was conceived. And the first choreography award was won by Sohanlal's disciple Saroj Khan for the 'Ek Do Teen' number from Tezaab.

Doordarshan had an objection with Amitabh Bachchan's performance on the 'Jumma Chumma' number on the Filmfare Awards event as the movie Hum had not yet been released by then and the song remained uncensored. The channel threatened to sue Filmfare for this but the matter subsequently dissolved.

Filmfare Awards Facts3

In 1975 Yash Chopra's Deewaar swept all the awards except for the lead actor Amitabh Bachchan.

Also surprisingly the biggest blockbuster hit Sholay won only one Filmfare Award in 1975 and that too for Best Editing.

Filmfare Awards Facts2

Lata Mangeshkar refused to accept her first Filmfare award because the Filmfare statuette was designed in the shape of a woman and the woman had no clothes on. So Lataji had reservations in accepting that nude statuette. Finally the award had to be wrapped with a handkerchief to be granted to Lataji.

In 1962 Shammi Kapoor was expecting an award for his performance in Professor but was quite disappointed when he lost it to Ashok Kumar who won it for Rakhee. Shammi Kapoor subsequently received a letter from Ashok Kumar where Dadamuni stated that he knew how one felt to not win an award and added that he felt Kapoor deserved the award. Dadamuni's generous and magnanimous thoughts brought back a smile on Shammi Kapoor's face.

In 1969 Sunil Dutt who lost it to Dilip Kumar in the Best Actor category organized a party for the thespian after the awards function. This started the trend of post-award parties.

Vyajayantimala didn't accept the award for Devdas in the Best Supporting Actress category because she thought she was the lead actress of the film and not Suchitra Sen.

Also Pran refused to accept the award in the Best Supporting Actor category for the film Beimaan but his reason was different. He thought that the background score of Pakeezah was much better than the background score of Beimaan. But Shankar-Jaikishen won the award for Beimaan.

Filmfare Awards Facts1

The guest of honour at the first ever awards (March 21, 1954 at the Metro theatre, Mumbai) was to be Gregory Peck. He couldn't make it--his flight from Colombo, where he was on location for Purple Plain, was delayed. But he did attend the banquet that followed at the Willingdon Sports Club.

At first, the awards were called Clares after Clare Mendonca, the Times of India film critic who died the year of the first awards, 1954. However, the name didn't stick.

At the first awards function, only 5 awards were presented with Do Bigha Zameen winning the award for the best film while Bimal Roy carried off the statuette for Best Director for the same film. Dilip Kumar won the first of many awards for his performance in Daag, while Meena Kumari won hers for Baiju Bawra. Best Music Director went to Naushad for Baiju Bawra.

National Awards facts 1

The National Film Awards, commonly known as the National Awards, are arguably the most prestigious and prominent film awards in India. The Awards are presented annually, in a ceremony, by the President of India. Declared for films produced in the previous year across the country, they hold the distinction of awarding merit to the best of Indian Cinema overall, as well as presenting awards for the best films in each region and language of the country.

The Awards were first presented in 1954. The Government of India conceived the ceremony to honour films made across India, on a national scale, to encourage the furthering of Indian art and culture.

Juries
The National Film Awards are presented in two main categories: Feature Films and Non-Feature Films. Two separate jury panels select the winners for each, and these juries are appointed by the Directorate of Film Festivals in India. There are strict criteria as to whether a film is eligible for consideration by the jury panels. Over 100 films made across the country are entered in each category (Feature and Non-Feature) for the awards and deemed eligible each year.

Star Marriages

One film old Gayatri Joshi (of Swades fame) got married to builder Vikas Oberoi(the managing director of Oberoi Constructions) this year with fanfare in a suburban five star hotel in Mumbai. She hasn't signed on any films as of now and doesn't seem likely to. Actor Akshay Kumar, who is Vikas’s best friend, will fly down from Las Vegas to attend the wedding ceremony.

Chitrangada Singh who starred in offbeat movies like Hazaron Khwaishein Aisi and Kal - Yesterday and Tomorrow married golfer Jyoti Randhawa and disappeared from the Bollywood circuit. In fact she got married before the release of Kal... and refused to promote the film in any way causing much trouble to the producers and director. No clue of her anywhere. Thumbs Down!

Director Vinta Nanda married childhood friend Anil Bahugana - a naval officer and surprised everyone. She made her debut as a film director with White Noise and word is that she is planning her next film as well. Here's someone who knows to divide time personally and professionally.

And finally from the actresses it's our very own Namrata Shirodkar who got married to south superstar Mahesh Babu. Mahesh's parents were apprehensive of their marriage but they agreed. They now live down South and we hope to see Namrata return to films once again.

Zayed Khan got married with pomp and style with his long time girlfriend Malaika Parekh. The couple had being seeing each other for some time and it was just a matter of time that they got married.

Cousin Fardeen Khan was not far behind and married Natassha Madhwani, daughter of yesteryear actress Mumtaz.

National Award winning actor Manoj Bajpai and actress Neha (of Kareeb) secretly tied the knot on February 23. The couple has been together for the past 7 years and had been very private about it. Hence the marriage being a complete hush hush affair didn't come as a surprise.

Just a day after Valentine's, T-Series head honcho Bhushan Kumar tied the nuptial knot with the gorgeous model-turned-actress Divya Khosla who acted in T-Series' Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Sathiyo and the video 'Honey Honey' along with Salman Khan.

There is Emraan Hashmi who's all set to marry steady girlfriend Parveen Sahani by mid next year. Sahani is a teacher for pre-school children.

And last but not the least there is Aamir Khan who is to start a new chapter in his life on the first day of the New Year by tying the knot with longtime girlfriend Kiran Rao. Rao was assistant director for Lagaan and there is where they apparently met.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award

*The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is an annual award given by the Indian government for lifetime contribution to Indian cinema. It was instituted in 1969, the birth centenary year of Dadasaheb Phalke, considered the father of Indian cinema.

Dhundiraj Govind Phalke popularly known as Dadasaheb Phalke, (April 30, 1870 - February 16, 1944) is known as the father of Indian cinema.

Dadasaheb Phalke was born in Nasik. He joined Sir J. J. School of Arts, Bombay in 1885. He made films for about three decades from 1910 to 1940, mostly in the role of director.

Raja Harishchandra is a 1913 silent Indian film directed by Dadasaheb Phalke, based on a story from the Mahabharata. This film was the first full-length Indian feature film. Phalke was greatly influenced by the style of painter Raja Ravi Verma (Raja Ravi Varma (1848-1906) was an Indian painter who achieved recognition for his depiction of scenes from the epics of the Mahabharata and Ramayana) in the making of this film.
